The basic race hypothesis - Essay Example In any case, white benefit is unique from states of outrageous remnants of bigotry or potentially bias, whereupon the prevalent race effectively thinks that its judicious to persecute other racial clans for their own benefit. Correspondingly, speculations of white benefit specify that the whites see their social, financial and social information as a custom that everybody should understanding, instead of a legitimacy that ought to be kept to the detriment of others (5-9). In the wake of the Second World War, various craftsmen in Europe endeavored to discover importance in what some viewed as an insignificant world. The war had desolated Europe, and it was hard to track down expectation over the landmass. Numerous craftsmen during this time were worried about existentialist thoughts. These new social develops drove writers to explore different avenues regarding new structures, which managed these existentialist methods of reasoning through a sensational medium. These structures tried different things with language, de-railed straight plotlines, and put characters in strange circumstances. Martin Esslin, the producerjournalist turned researcher, authored the adage â€Å"the Theater of the Absurd† in his book of a similar title. One of the significant authors of this new type of show was Samuel Beckett.Since Beckett’s plays started to be acted in the 1950’s, theater pundits have regularly seen exhibitions of Beckett’s works through the viewpoint of existentialism, and his style provoked numerous to think of him as an absurdist. Absurdist hypotheses had the option to outline the sensational works for that time, yet as the social builds of Western culture, particularly those concerning ladies, have changed, so has emotional analysis of ladies. As 50 years has gone since the underlying composition of Beckett’s plays, it is imperative to think about them, particularly those with solid female characters, through an advanced women's activist critique.Beckett’s composing occurred during the second women’s development. The Second World War had changed people’s sees on ethical quality, and society had to 5 reclassify its principles. Prior to the First World War, class structure in Europe was unbendingly characterized. Individuals â€Å"knew their place† and the hole between the rich and the poor was nearly un-crossable. The war made open doors for the lower class to progress in social position, yet once it was finished, society endeavored to come back to its pre-War structure. This cycle happened again after the Second World War.During the war, persecuted people groups in Europe were permitted to do things that they hadn’t had the option to already, yet once it was over they were relied upon to come back to their place in the public arena. In Europe these individuals, including racial and strict minorities, the regu lar workers, and ladies, were tired of these limitations. Ladies specifically endeavored to acquire uniformity in the activity advertise and different settings. Beckett was in the fascinating situation of composing with regards to the middle of this social unrest. From multiple points of view, he was extremely acquainted with the old world and conventions, where women’s place in the public arena was compliant to her husband. But he was additionally anticipating what the future could bring. His work from multiple points of view foreseen the second women’s development. Beckett’s early sensational works are loaded up with male characters. Every one of these men is endeavoring to answer the most fundamental of life’s questions: Who are we and what are we doing here? In any case, it was not until 1961 with Happy Days that he gave the phase over totally to the voice of a lady. In Waiting for Godot, Endgame, and Krapp’s Last Tape, ladies were not given a s olid voice on the stage’s playing space. With Happy Days and the character of Winnie, Beckett gave ladies a voice in his work.Traditionally, Happy Days has been seen through an existentialist focal point, much similarly that Beckett’s different works are 6 seen. This investigation, in any case, endeavors to re-outline Happy Days through another arrangement of academic assessments: the thoughts of women's activist hypothesis and showy execution. Through insightful research and execution of the piece, I took a gander at this significant work from another point of view. In the twenty-first century, an on-screen character can't move toward the part with a similar foundation as a lady assuming the job in the mid 1960’s.While it is essential to take a gander at plays inside the chronicled setting and custom in which they were initially played out, this view constrains the entertainer. On the off chance that one was to just glance at a bit of work truly and not deciphe r it utilizing present day draws near, theater would, I accept, in the end become stale and not, at this point applicable to the world other than from an authentic exhibition hall. Upbeat Days needs another assessment. The time has come to inspect it through the eyes of a cutting edge lady, since that is the individual who will play out this job today. On Absurdism was a deviation from customary French theater however not inner voice development in itself. Toward the start of the twentieth century the cutting edge development was viewed in a similar vein as the symbolists of the late nineteenth century: their specialty was endeavoring to accomplish similar outcomes. Symbolists were responding against the naturalist and pragmatist types of workmanship and accepted that the best way to speak to reality and significance of life was to do it by implication, rather than through precise impersonation of reality.Much of the world was attempting to recoup after two enormous scope wars. Durin g the late 1940’s and the 1950’s, the French were keen on taking a gander at the past for motivation for their dramatization. Fantasies, legends, and images were principally 7 utilized as topic. Specific accentuation was put on the structure of language, for â€Å"the ‘poetic avant-garde’ represent[ed] an alternate state of mind; it is progressively melodious, and far less rough and grotesque† than the performance center of the preposterous (Esslin 25). Creations handled the puzzle of dreams and want through customary emotional conventions.Paris, which has been the support of various new masterful developments, was the origin for new ways of thinking, and the vanguard of Paris show â€Å" is this piece of the ‘anti-literary’ development within recent memory, which has discovered its demeanor in dynamic composition, with its dismissal of ‘literary’ components in pictures; or in the ‘new novel’ in France, with i ts dependence on the depiction of items and its dismissal of compassion and anthropomorphism† (Esslin 26). Theater specialists understood this was a significant progression for their artistic expression too, and started to explore different avenues regarding these structures through sensational constructs.Esslin pick the word â€Å"absurd† to depict these plays dependent on the word’s definition, which implies â€Å"out of concordance with reason or appropriateness; indistinguishable, irrational, illogical† (Esslin 23). Crafted by the absurdist playwri

The Self Medication Theory of Addiction

The Self Medication Theory of Addiction Addiction Addictive Behaviors Print The Self Medication Theory of Addiction By Elizabeth Hartney, BSc., MSc., MA, PhD Elizabeth Hartney, BSc, MSc, MA, PhD is a psychologist, professor, and Director of the Centre for Health Leadership and Research at Royal Roads University, Canada. The self-medication theory usually refers to substance use disorders, but it can also be applied to non-substance or behavioral addictions. The Self-Medication Hypothesis The self-medication hypothesis began appearing in medical journals in the 1970s, as clinicians noticed that heroin addicts were using the drug to cope with problems such as stress and loneliness. The self-medication theory suggests that use develops as a way of coping with stress in the absence of adequate solutions and meaningful social relationships. The theory gained momentum as it was recognized that many medications prescribed for legitimate ailments are similar to recreational drugs. It was further popularized by the increasing recognition in the medical community that marijuana, for many years thought of as a purely recreational drug, has many medicinal properties. The theory goes that, for some conditions, such as chronic pain, prescribed medications may be insufficient or problematic, and so marijuana users who suffer from chronic pain are simply self-medicating. This has lead to medical marijuana now being available on prescription in some places for the treatment of certain conditions. Effects, Myths, and Risks of Marijuana Responses The self-medication theory is increasingly popular among people with addictions and professionals who treat them. While some who take a hard line on addictions believe the self-medication theory is an excuse for irresponsible behavior, many in the medical profession find it useful to transition people from substances and behaviors that they are addicted to and are causing the problems to more controllable prescription medications that address the underlying problem directly. Depression, for example, can often be successfully treated with antidepressant medication, freeing the individual from seeking emotional comfort in their addiction.?? The theory is compassionate to people with addictions, particularly illicit drug users. It suggests that drug use is often an attempt to fill the gap left by limited medical options. The self-medication theory is also helpful to the therapeutic process, as it provides a clear path out of addiction that unites professionals with people struggling with addictions. They have a shared goal of correctly treating the underlying problem, and can work together to achieve this. However, some argue that the theory may absolve illicit drug users of some of the responsibility for their problems. Another stance taken against the self-medication theory is that by arguing that people with addictions are self-medicating, the theory legitimizes drug use, and medication generally, as a way of solving emotional problems. Many people who have been through the process of becoming abstinent feel that any drug use, including medications, allows people to avoid dealing with psychological issues and reinforces denial. In tandem with this, the self-medication theory reinforces the disease model of addiction. It runs the risk of simplifying the complex issue of addiction, which involves many psychological and social factors, to pure physiology. The Future of the Self-Medication Theory More and more people are going public with their addictions. Addiction and its treatment are no longer swept under the carpet, and these issues have even become the subject of reality shows, such as Intervention. Many celebrities and even politicians have admitted to past drug use. With greater social change and openness about drug use and addictions, society is becoming more compassionate towards those with addictions. The drug legalization movement and the medical marijuana movement, both of which have become increasingly mainstream, support the self-medication theory. The theory will likely play an important role in current and future concepts of addiction. The 9 Best Online Therapy Programs

Batteries and Battery Chargers on Ship Coursework - 1100 Words

Batteries and Battery Chargers on Ship (Coursework Sample) Content: NameInstructorCourseCollegeDateBatteries and Battery ChargersBatteries and battery chargers are important components used in the ship. The battery system on the ship is mainly used as a source of energy in case of any emergency. However, some vessels use the battery system as their main source of energy (Godager 243). There are various types of batteries used on board the ship all of which are essential in one way or another. In addition, each of them requires special testing, handling and maintenance. The following report will give information regarding the use of batteries and battery chargers on board the ship. The report will focus on the main types of batteries used, types of chargers used, how the battery system works and how it is charged. The report will also reflect the maintenance of batteries as well as the special requirements to the use of the battery system on board the ship.Batteries are used in the ship as one of the sources of energy (Godager 243). Us ually, they are used in times of black out and when there is an emergency on board. This use applies for almost all vessels. Nonetheless, batteries can be used regularly to provide a dc supply to various machines such as the engine and the decks (Godager 243). In addition, most of these batteries are used for low voltage like the bridge navigational instruments. For this reason, it is recommended for all batteries to remain charged in case of power emergencies (Godager 243).The selection of the type and size of battery to be used in the ship depends on capacity and application of services (International Maritime Organization 124). Usually, there are two major types of battery systems used on board the ship. They include the Lead-Acid and Alkaline batteries (International Maritime Organization 124). The Lead-Acid battery consists of a series of cells. Each cell contains a positive and a negative plate both of which are made of lead metal. Both plates are immersed in dilute Sulphuric acid. The arrangement of the two plates and the electrolyte is kept in a case which is leak-proof where w ire is used to join the two plates. The lead-Acid battery in the ship consists of six cells with each cell having a voltage if about 2.2. This means that the whole battery produces a voltage of about 12 volts. The alkaline battery comprises of a positive plate of nickel hydroxide and a negative plate of iron and cadmium. Both plates of the alkaline battery are immersed in a solution of potassium hydroxide. The battery normally contains 5 cells each producing 1.4 volts (International Maritime Organization 125).Figure 1: Battery system: (Rahn, 2012).Battery maintenance is an important task on board the ship (Barker 204). It should therefore be performed diligently by trained personnel. We know that both Lead-Acid and Alkaline batteries require different maintenance and handling. Usually, the maintenance of batteries is done for the prevention of leakages or other problems. The mos t important thing is to keep all batteries fully charged in case of any emergency that would occur (Godager 243). Considering the Lead-Acid battery, a trickle charge provided constantly will ensure that the battery is always full charged. It is also important to regularly check the voltage of the battery to ensure that it is fully charged always (Barker 204).Other battery maintenance practices include keeping the battery dry and clean and maintaining the electrolyte at the desired level, that is slightly above the plate. In case the electrolyte evaporates due to climate or weather, the ETO should add some distilled water. This explains the reasons why there is need to consider environmental factors during battery maintenance. Other maintenance tasks include keeping the terminals clean and clearing off small vents which would be present in cell caps (Barker 204).Battery chargers used on board the ship include the Charge master and the Mass. Charge master may contain 12 V and 24 V whi le the mass may contain 24V and 48V. These are the most effective battery chargers used on the ship. Both chargers are recommended for charging specific number and types of batteries. Most chargers used in ships today have AC supply system. However, professionals argue that it is important to switch to dc supply system. Various factors influence the selection of the type of battery charger to use (Watson 253). The most important factor is the consideration of the number of batteries to be charged. For instance the Charge master is recommended for charging multiple batteries. The technical worker on board should ensure that the voltage of the charge corresponds to that of battery bank (Watson 253).Battery testing is an essential task on board the ship. It is usually done to provide information on the condition of the cells and the battery. In addition, battery testing is done to provide answers to whether the battery is fully charged, whether the battery has enough charge, whether th e battery meets the specification of the manufacturer or whether the battery will last long. An example of a testing procedure is testing the state of charge in the battery (Pistoia 322). In this situation, the professional discharges the battery and measures the output of energy. Determining the life of the secondary cell is also possible by cycling it until it fails. When failure occurs instantly, it indicates that the battery is not fit to serve its purpose. (Pistoia 321).The two major methods of testing the battery include qualification and abuse testing. Qualification testing is performed to determine the suitability of the battery in serving the intended use before its approval for installation. In addition, the qualification testing verifies whether the battery meets the specification of the manufacturer. Abuse testing is usually done to ensure that the battery will not cause any danger to any user on board (Pistoia 322).Other battery testing measures include mechanical and e nvironmental testing (Pistoia 322). Mechanical testing is done to ascertain that the battery can withstand any mechanical stresses to which it may be exposed to. Various mec...

In this essay, I will argue the ways in which point of view is significant in the interpretation of any two texts studied on the course. The two texts that I will be examining are Great Expectations and Little Red Riding Cap. Firstly, I will present to you the meaning and definition of Formalization. Then I will show the different examples of formalization within the tale and how this literary technique aids the reader in understanding the narrative. Gang Violence A Serious Problem - 1561 Words

Gang violence is a serious problem in America today, and it is also prevalent in the other countries in the world. â€Å"According to a national gang survey, the most recent estimate indicates that there were about 760,000 gang members in 24,000 gangs in the United States in 2004† this just supports the statement that it is a huge problem in the United States (Cooper, 2009, p. 1). Unfortunately, the Youth of America and these other countries have been a large demographic of these gangs for many years due to many contributing factors. One criminal factor that initiates gang violence are the overwhelming presence of adolescents and young adults involved with gangs, Celinda Franco states that not only youth participants but whole â€Å"youth gangs† have been on the radar for policy makers since the early 1900’s (Cooper, 2009, p. 2). Another factor is the nature of the remorseless and often violent nature of these gang related offenses many gang members act as if they have no conscience and no values, and the fact that a large percentage are â€Å"easy to influence† youth doesn’t help the case that most commit gang crimes on a whim. Finally, the fact that most of these gang related offenses that the youth carries o ut are in poverty stricken neighborhoods that have very poor socioeconomic status, this it is a bad situation that is difficult to escape from because young adults and adolescents do not have the means to move outside this zone and may never attain this goal (Cooper, 2009, p. 3).Show MoreRelatedThe War On Drugs Has Been All Over The World1726 Words   |  7 Pagescome along with drugs such as people becoming addicts, violence, and crime in general, drug lords, and a plethora of other problems. How was I to know what the poet really meant? I was not there when he wrote the poem. That day left a bad taste in my mouth, and that was the beginning of difficulty in language arts. Whenever a language arts teacher asked me to interpret a poem or analyze a story, my head would ache. I told myself that language arts and literature were for â€Å"deep thinkers,† and I convinced myself that I I was no that type of thinker. My teacher explained that knowing about the periods in literature and knowing facts about the writers were the keys to unlocking the meaning to literary works, but I convinced myself that it was not for me. My struggles in language arts crossed over to my studies in history. Why do I need to know dates, periods in history, and documents? In my opinion, there was nothing interesting about the American government or 17th century European wars. Although it seemed to others that I was a star student in all my subjects, most did not know how much I struggled to clench my sanity when I entered social studies classrooms. Eventually, I reasoned that there is a solution to every problem, and the solution lies within me. With that realization, I changed my attitude and worked hard to excel in both subjects. I studied longer and harder; I improved my note taking skills; I made the library my second home, and stayed after school and sought help when I needed it. Today, I am not the best student in language arts and social studies, but I have greatly improved. I have joined a book club in hopes of becoming more comfortable with reading and understanding literary works. I also joined the social studies club in order to improve not only my grades but also to improve my attitude toward this subject. In addition, I took the challenge taking Advanced Placement Courses in English Language and Composition and English Literature and Composition. Cold War containment and the red scare free essay sample

As the strength of the Soviet Union grew and the fear of its potential capabilities mounted in the 1950’s, coupled with the fear of communism as a whole in the US reaching an unprecedented point, the effects on the social development of the US as a result of the red scare and growth of communism showed in several ways. As a result of the Red Scare that developed in the 1950’s, American politicians often held strong concern for soviet espionage and as a result were strongly advocating for the removal of heavily liberal politicians with intentions on the verge of outrightedly strong democracy. America had put itself in a chokehold socially and politically as a result of the paranoia from the red scare. In addition, the fear of communism would have effects on the way that politicians approached unregulated capitalism which in and of itself is an antidemocratic practice. The effects of various financial plans on capitalism and capitalism itself would be some of things quelled by these politicians’ actions. We will write a custom essay sample on Cold War containment and the red scare or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page After the effects on economy and political structure of America came a swift set of decisions under the moniker of â€Å"McCarthyism†, named after its namesake, Senator Joseph McCarthy. These decisions were made as the second red scare initiated, with events the likes of the Berlin blockade and the Chinese Civil war(leading to the rise of Mao Zedong) having large effects on the psyche of Americans and the overall attitude towards communism. There were a few main threats outside of the US that would mold the events of 1950’s United States of America. As tension grew between the Soviet Union and the United States, talks of nuclear warfare and absolute mutually assured destruction suddenly became possibilities and a wave of fear and anxiety about the first nation to pull the trigger swept through America. This would lead to the US remaining hard pressed in its efforts to maintain communication and watch over other nations so as to avoid nuclear warfare. This fear would only grow when Russia successfully tested its own atomic bomb. Along with the effect of outside threats on US actions, communism within the US would have numerous grand scale effects on the country as a whole. With paranoia mounting for communism in general, many politicians and people of the US would begin stereotyping people based on the twisted ideas of communism and paranoia mounting in general. Many people would be persecuted for their actions regardless of their stance on communism and overall, the actions of Americans during the red scare embodied the same mentality towards the Japanese during World War II. With both groups having profound effects on the US, the Americans would respond with a fierce level of hatred and animosity driven by a mixture of paranoia and confusion over the true beliefs of the Japanese and the Communists as well as the fear of more future actions from these groups. Overall, the fear of Soviet threats outside of the US and the fear of communists within the US had significant effects on many aspects of life for Americans. Paranoia increased, strict regulations and actions were taken and a slew of rash and fear-driven actions would put the nation on a hell-bent race to get away from communism. In addition, the fear of communism within the states would cause the mentality of Americans towards it be one of complete hatred and misunderstanding, a similar resulting attitude as the one propagated towards the Japanese due to a misunderstanding of their people and actions during World War II. The red scare would have an effect on economic plans for the nation, social structure due to how it would affect the mentality and psyche of Americans and how international affairs would be handled in the future, all indicative of how monumental the effects of the red scare and outside soviet threats were on the development of the US in the 1950’s.

Question: Discuss about theTaxation for Federal Commissioner of Taxation. Answer: Introduction to the Case The appellant was a past member and staff that worked in the office of the department of Australian Taxes. In the current time, she had been taking leaves of long duration and that too for purpose of recreation and other entertainment purposes. The work cannot get stopped and thus in her absence, the work used to get allocated to the employees who had equal efficiency. On her arrival, she thought that she is no more useful for the company as her work was being done by others. Thus, she decided and wrote an email to the director of the office for getting a voluntary redundancy. At the initial stage, the officers went against the voluntary redundancy email and said that there was situation that represented her reduction in value in the department. On subsequent visit to the email it was approved that the email must be accepted and thus the dismissal of the employee was granted and the same was done in a manner formal to the office. The acceptance of the email was the not the issues that was represented in the case but the main concern and argument of the case was the taxability of the payment of the redundancy. She went for appeal as the Commissioner charged him $7,825 as liability of tax that was Nil as per the appellant. The Section that was under Breach The Acts of the Income tax has perfectly taken into account the payments and taxability of the amount that has a relation with redundancy. As per 83-175 of the Acts of the Income tax, the payments are considered fair and genuine in cases where the payments are made in genuine terms. The redundancy is said genuine when the payments are higher than the payments of voluntary termination. The case requires the knowledge of the character and nature of the payments to determine the genuine nature of the redundancy and other payments. The policies and regulations that states that the possibility of the termination among employees arises at the time when the count of the employees increases as per the requirement, is contained in the Public Services Act. Further, when situations arise that the terms and policies of the company are getting breached and not going as per the agreements, there can be a conduct of termination (Ravn and Sterk 2013). The adoption of such approaches takes time and thus it might be possible that the employees become incapable in utilizing the modern day approaches with higher efficiency. The lack of training within the employees can be the result of the non utilization or ineffective manner of utilizing the scenarios of the job and also the conducting of the procedures in an effective manner. The agency must take steps to train and support the employees to get out of such lacking situation and get an effective and efficient approach towards maintaining the modern day outgoings and careers facilities. The employees must be respected and must allow them to leave their jobs and offices with a lot of dignity as they had rendered their services towards the good of their company. Findings of the Facts in the Case The individual was dismissed from the employment of the office in a formal manner after the acceptance of the email forwarded to the directors. The statement of the taxability imposed on the payment of redundancy was presented before the Tribunal and the case was further taken under the study and investigation. The main findings of the Tribunal consisted that the appellant services were not being in an efficient manner and that the co workers or the individuals who had similar capacities and talent can only be efficient in carrying out the jobs (Moore 2015). A number of arguments formed the case as the same was a requirement for distinguishing the variety of losses occurring within the workplace. The findings also constituted the following points stated below: The jobs requirements related with the performances are distinguished A statement related to the rules and policies of the Income tax assessment Act and other related acts was prepared. It was declared that the selection of the employees must be done in an effective manner. The employees will not be declared useless or ineffective even when they are unable to perform out their duties and responsibilities as performed by the old and past employees (Cotter 2012). Proceedings of Court The proceedings of the court of law considered the following: The amount that is paid towards the employees, at the time of the termination or removal must be taken into account. The same must be considered as the employee termination payments and there were clauses under the Public Service Act that stated the conditions of terminating the employees. As per the clauses, the termination could take place when the available employees exceed the required number of employees in an organization (Enchautegui 2012). The reasons behind the treatment of the payments under the head of employee termination was accounted and considered. The redundancy payments as per the agreements of the agency were also considered as per the Act of Income tax assessment. There are grounds that the ATO had decided for proving the validity of the payments that was made at the termination time of the employees. Thus, the same must be followed for effective calculation of the amount. The method of the payment is another significant and noteworthy consideration as it involves the reserves from where the amount is required to get paid. In this case, the payments were to be done by officers from the consolidated reserves. In the case there were implications done towards the determination and identification of payments at times of termination. The genuine nature of the payments must be decided for effectiveness of the payments as per the law and taxes. The case is not the part of the payments of genuine redundancy and hence there will be changes in the nature of disposition of the payments. Deliberation of Judgments There was a variety of claims that were under imposition and a several number of inconsistencies that was a part of the process of decision making. There were many distractions that occurred before the judgments had been declared at the final stage. There were also a number of inconsistencies that formed part of the acts and the laws. The concept of the redundancy payments was not broad in features and characteristics. There were a number of failures on the part of the tribunal and the same considered the accuracy in the procedures that conducted the details study of the facts and data regarding the status and the position of the appellant individual in the case. The process and technique applied by the Tribunal was considered wrong and was under several criticisms. The methods were criticized on terms that the data collected from the systems would be inaccurate and incorrect that would have been a result of the non cross examination or investigation of the processes that had been un dertaken by the Tribunal. The first and foremost case referred was the consideration made towards the effective removal of the errors. The case was that of Dib and the same was referred to the Tribunal for the tax appeal and towards removing the errors that occurred within the case. The important facts that the Tribunal will possibly consider and take into account the effective conduct of the appeal under the case. Further, the elimination of the errors was another consideration of the Tribunal and part of law. There was a connection made that was related to the terms and agreements of the agency and the same were misconstrued by Tribunal. The statements were made that had connection to the acts and responsibilities undertaken by the Tribunal. It stated that he had been responsible and had acted in a diligent and efficient manner and had not misunderstood any roles and responsibilities. Lastly, on the effective analysis by the commissioner, it was stated that the appellant was not appreciated and respected. On the other hand, there were impositions of the taxes and other legal considerations that formed the part of the treatment of the payment of genuine redundancy. On the basis of the above evaluation and analysis it was decided that the facts and the findings would lend a hand in the recognition of the exactness and accurateness in the payments of redundancy. The employee in relation to the payments of the redundancy did face a several amount of problems that were unstable and inconsistent in nature. The employees also faced the problems related to the agency and the excessiveness in the number of employees. There were a wide range of inconsistencies that formed the part of errors evolving within the case and thus the law of court had to take steps in removing the same (DaleOlsen 2013). Conclusion The payments received were taxable and liable under the head of employee termination payments and the same was found after the proper evaluation and analysis of the findings above. A number of arguments formed the case as the same was a requirement for distinguishing the variety of losses occurring within the workplace. The nature of redundancy of genuine payments was under numerous arguments. The payments were a component of the regulations and lawmaking declarations of the Acts related to the Income Tax Assessment. It was liberated from the tax impositions imposed by the government. In the case there were implications done towards the determination and identification of payments at times of termination. The genuine nature of the payments must be decided for effectiveness of the payments as per the law and taxes. The case is not the part of the payments of genuine redundancy and hence there will be changes in the nature of disposition of the payments. The statement of the taxability imposed on the payment of redundancy was presented before the Tribunal and the case was further taken under the study and investigation. The main findings of the Tribunal consisted that the appellant services were not being in an efficient manner and that the co workers or the individuals who had similar capacities and talent can only be efficient in carrying out the jobs. There were relations in the decision making processes by the AAT and clarity related to the payments of voluntary redundancy. There were judgments held that had relation with the position of redundancy. The case considered did not have a genuine nature and thus the payments of redundancy will be taxable under the required head. Thus, the desired tax amount had to be paid as per the requirement. Therefore, the court decided and dismissed the appeal of the individual and she was under obligation to pay the required amount of taxes. Reference List Bilau, A. A., Ajagbe, A. M., Sholanke, A. Environmental Scan Of The Airline Industry Tourism Essay Essay We have defined our relevant market for Flydubai as a low cost bearer within the merchandise signifier degree. Bing positioned as a low cost national air hose bearer, it s confronting a high competition from other national air hoses which force the relevant market to be within the merchandise signifier. ( For more information on the relevant market please mention to appendix 2 ) . This paper will concentrate on showing an environmental scan of the air hose industry within the Middle East part during the clip frame of 3 old ages ( 2009-2012 ) . In order to make so, we will place the important tendencies and their attendant deductions on Flydubai relevant market. This study will include an in deepness reappraisal of the macro, micro analysis and its deductions of Flydubai relevant market in the following three old ages. Body: In placing the major key tendencies in the macro environment of Flydubai, we have addressed several issues that include the political, societal and economical tendencies. Flydubai was established by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Prime Minister and Vice-President, and Ruler of Dubai orders in March 2008 and started its operation in its first flight to Lebanon on June 1st 2009.Being to the full owned by Dubai authorities and bask the full installations offered in terminal 2 at Dubai International Airport, the company is holding a competitory advantage compared to its challengers in the market as it enjoy the full authorities support and airdrome services. Furthermore, the current authorities tendency in the labour force is towards emiratization and protecting labours rights. Bing a portion of the Fly Emirates Group, the organisation will confront no job in emiratization as it will follow Fly Emirates emiratization scheme. The major challenge that Flydubai will confront is being able to offer high paid occupations and cut down its operational costs as it is considered a low cost air hose company. Falling oil monetary values, chilling existent estate and building markets, together with a lag in the touristry sector, particularly in Dubai, means the UAE is expected to post low or perchance negative GDP growing in 2009 , harmonizing to analysts ( Arabian Business, 2009 ) . This information may be considered negative to many air hose companies but it may be positive to a low cost air hose similar Flydubai as people are now concentrating more in cut downing their disbursals as the incomes are reduced. This means their inclination of consumers concentrating more on monetary values is increasing. Furthermore, consumer behaviour is altering towards low cost air hoses particularly in the Middle East part as consumers are persuaded by low monetary values and a better service offered by low cost air hoses. Harmonizing to a survey done by Arabian Business web site, it was found that 83 per centum of the respondents would exchange their preferable air hose bearer, for a cheaper monetary value, while 17.6 per centum believed they would see options and merchandise off between the price reduction and lost air stat mis. It can therefore be inferred that pricing plays a important function in consumer behavior and the determination doing procedure particularly in the current economic downswing epoch ( Glass, 2008 ) . Harmonizing to Dubai section of Tourism and commercialism selling 3.85 million tourers had visited the emirate in the first half of 2009, a five per centum addition on the same period of 2008 . This figure strongly shows the current touristry industry market and how attractive it became even though of the current economical downswing. Other figures expect that the figure of tourers will fall compared to 2008 figures but most figures have stated that there will be a positive growing in 2010. This figure shows that Flydubai will see a future growing rates in the coming 3 old ages as terrorist act sector restore its high figures after get the better ofing the current downswing. As observed by Andrew Cowen, CEO of SAMA Airlines, the market is switching from the traditional major air hoses concern travel towards low cost bearers for trips within the GCC. Business travellers are altering their perceptual experience of low cost bearers, supported by the current economic downswing and the addition figure of foreign concerns within GCC states come ining the UAE. This shows a tendency of an increasing demand for low cost bearers in the following three old ages ( High clip for low cost bearers, 2008 ) . ( For in depth information on the analysis of the macro environment of the air hose industry please refer to Appendix 3 ) In placing the major key tendencies in the micro environment the undermentioned facets that includes, Customers, Employees, media, stockholders, rivals and providers. Customers who are monetary value conscious are concerned with low cost air hoses. Flydubai has focused on pricing scheme and flexibleness because these two factors play a large function in finding the client s determination procedure on which air hoses they choose to go with. Furthermore, the figure of tourer from around the universe including the part will turn more than 40 % in the following 3 old ages in Dubai ( www.realtyna.com ) . This shows that there will be increased figure of clients who will utilize Flydubai air hoses within the following three old ages due its successful usage of pricing scheme and flexibleness. The Employees of Flydubai have good experiences and they were carefully selected from 12 different nationalities. Harmonizing to Kenneth Gile, main runing officer of Flydubai said: We are highly pleased with the endowment of the pilots we have on board. On norm, they each have more than 4,000 hours functioning every bit captain in similar aircraft and a entire experience of more than 8,000 winging hours this is impressive by any criterion ( Sambidge, 2009 ) . Flydubai is to the full owned by the authorities of Dubai and its considered as a portion of its female parent company the Emirates Group. The chief scheme that Flydubai is willing to utilize for their selling scheme is through word of oral cavity ( bombilation ) . This is because Flydubai is a low cost air hose ; they tend to put low budgets for their advertizements to maintain their monetary values low. The direct rivals of Flydubai are Air Arabia and Al Jazeerah air hoses because these two air hoses are besides low cost air hoses in the same state as Flydubai. However, the major rival of Flydubai is Air Arabia because, foremost of all, they are the first to claim about low cost air hoses in the Middle East part. Furthermore, they hold the highest market portion in the relevant market as identified before. Our market portion comparing to those two carries are low because Flydubai merely late launched to the market. But, within the following three old ages we expect rapid growing in the market portion because Dubai is a finish for tourers. The major indirect rival is Fly Emirates which stands as the leader in air hose industry in the relevant market and it will maintain its public presentation in the following three old ages. The 2nd indirect rival is Etihad Airlines which is turning fast because of the limitless support from Abu Dhabi authorities. In add-on, those air hose bearers m ake low monetary value offers for the same finish that we have flight lines to. The provider of Flydubai is Boeing. Flydubai announced an order of 50 following coevals 737 aircraft from Boeing. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum said: The Boeing Next-Generation 737 is ideally suited to our mission to convey some two billion regional dwellers low-cost, efficient and flexible travel options to and from Dubai. ( For more information on the micro environment analysis, delight mention to Appendix 4 ) . Deductions: Primary demand: Low cost air hoses are concentrating on clients who are monetary value witting. The figure of clients utilizing the LCC air hoses is increasing and it will go on turning in the following three old ages ( www.gulf-daily-news.com ) . This is because, foremost of all, the per centum of tourers will increase by 40 % within the following three old ages which shows that the market portion of LCC will increase every bit good. Second, because of the economic status, many people tend to salvage money and spend it on low cost air hoses to go more to the coveted finishs. Users of Low cost air hoses contain all different ages and nationalities. Furthermore, cost is one of the chief factors that affect client s ability to purchase. The costs of these bearers are low and will go on to stay low in the following three old ages. This will increase client s ability and willingness to purchase. Selective demand We can specify the consumer determination doing procedure as an extended job work outing degree, where they are introduced to a complete new trade name with low trade name cognition. So, Flydubai should infusive more on their trade name individuality through the media and other communicating types in order to enrich consumer s cognition. Once Flydubai had increased the degree of consumer cognition, we expect immense addition in market portion in the following three old ages because the determination devising procedure is traveling to switch from extended job work outing to routine which is low information hunt about the company. Therefore, we expect major alteration within the following three twelvemonth upon the factors we mentioned above. Cleavage: As for cleavage we expect to see a rise in the population of the UAE in the undermentioned 3 old ages. Harmonizing to the electronic portal of Gulf News the population of UAE is nearing six million as of now and it is expected to intensify even further by the terminal of this twelvemonth. An addition in building in the coming old ages requires more labour to be imported from foreign states, therefore increasing the figure of possible clients ( low income and middle-class life styles ) who might desire to utilize our services. Furthermore, economic roar can besides be a factor for business communities to go to and from Dubai more often. In add-on, the figure of pupils going to the UAE for instruction is expected to increase in the close hereafter ; this implies that they will most likely choice Flydubai as their primary manner of conveyance to go to and from the UAE, since the economic status shows really small marks of betterment in the close hereafter. More tourers are expected to get in the UAE within the close hereafter out of which a subdivision of them are highly monetary value sensitive travellers. Another scenario would be that the current economic downswing continues to consequence economic systems world-wide within the coming three old ages increasing the figure of price-sensitive clients in the eight markets we operate in. To maintain up with the jutting demand, Flydubai is be aftering to increase its swift size from 5 ( presently ) to 54 aircrafts in the coming old ages. An addition in swift size would let Flydubai non merely to suit a big figure of clients but besides expand its range in footings of finishs. Conversely, the proclamation of the new GCC rail web which is the new transit category in our relevant market is expected to hold a little negative consequence on Flydubai s operations in footings of fring clients that fall in our mark cleavage. The GCC rail web and Flydubai have one common finish which is Qatar. Once the GCC rail web begins its operations there is a high possibility of losing out on our current and possible clients. ( For more information on cleavage please mention to appendix 5 ) . Rival analysis Our major competitory in our comparative market is Air Arabia and so Al Jazeera Airlines. Air Arabia is keeping major market portion because they are the first to claim about establishing foremost low cost air hoses in Middle East part. However, Flydubai can vie with those two direct rivals when we focus on our competitory advantage which is monetary value leading. Besides, location is another of import factor due the figure of travellers that are utilizing Dubai Airport comparing to Sharjah Airport. In add-on, being portion of the Emirates Group will add more value to Flydubai trade name equity which will do it easier to do clients switch toward our company within the following three old ages. ( For more information on rival analysis, delight mention to Appendix 6 ) Decision: In decision after analysing the environmental micro and macro tendency for Flydubai, we observed that there are two major alterations in our relevant market. First, the addition of the touristry degree in Dubai as we expect the current economic downswing epoch to alter its way towards positive figures in the following three old ages. Besides, the companies holders and business communities attitude towards low cost air hoses is altering by utilizing it as these air hoses are supplying concern work forces services on board such a concern category and wireless cyberspace connexion. The figure of rivals within the low cost air hose industry is traveling to increase in the coming old ages as new air hoses such as Bahrain Airlines starts its operation this twelvemonth. Second, full service air hoses are spread outing their market towards low cost air hose by presenting low monetary value tickets that attract monetary value sensitive consumers. We expect that within the following 10 old ag es a new category degree will come in the market in the GCC part which is trains transit. Besides, a new signifier degree will emerge in the relevant market which is a combination between full services and low cost bearers. Finally, within the following three old ages we expect those alterations in the relevant market to be reshaped impacting the primary and selective demand. Bibliography ( 2009, October 18 ) . Retrieved from hypertext transfer protocol: //www.zawya.com/story.cfm/sidZAWYA20090616081711 Appendix 1 Back Ground information on Flydubai: Flydubai is the UAE 2nd low cost air hose that was established in March,3rd 2008 on the orders of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Prime Minister and Vice-President, and Ruler of Dubai. The company foremost flight was in June 1,2009 to Beirut in Lebanon followed by flights to Amman, Jordan, on June 2, Damascus, Syria, on June 8 and Alexandria, Egypt, on June 9, giving the new air hose a sum of four finishs in merely nine yearss. ( Redpath, 2009 ) . The company had ordered 50 Boeing 737 and is traveling to have 10 aeroplanes each twelvemonth for the following five old ages. ( Flydubai,2009 ) Currently the company runs its operations in Dubai International Airport terminal 2 that was redesigned for the new air hose. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Flydubai said: This part is really dependent on air conveyance. It is a great recognition to the vision and leading of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, that this air hose has now taken off, thereby guaranting occupants and visitants likewise will be able to go to more topographic points more frequently. ( Redpath, 2009 ) . The Flydubai theoretical account is simple, with clients merely paying for the services they want. The ticket monetary value includes all revenue enhancements and one piece of manus luggage, weighing up to 10kg, per rider. Passengers have the option to buy checked-in luggage in progress at merely 40AED for the first piece and 100AED for the 2nd, weighing up to 32kgs, capable to handiness. Checked luggage is purely capable to handiness and riders are advised to book early to procure the infinite, as merely pre-purchased luggage can be guaranteed. ( Redpath, 2009 ) Flydubai aims to do travel a small less complex, a small less nerve-racking and a small less expensive, explained Flydubai CEO Ghaith Al Ghaith. Our riders have the option to custom-make their travel experience depending on what services they want and how much they want to pay. ( Redpath, 2009 ) We plan to excite the markets in which we operate and encourage people to go to more topographic points more frequently. Flydubai purpose is non to drive traffic off from the other bearers but to assist turn these markets. When you consider that low cost travel in this part could be every bit small as 2 % of all air travel, as opposed to more than 20 % in Europe and America, it is clear that there is a batch of untapped potency in these markets. ( Redpath, 2009 ) In add-on, Flydubai will wing to airdromes that are presently underserved by the traditional bearers. In a part which is so dependent on air conveyance, we are looking frontward to supplying the world of accessible, low cost, uncomplicated travel ( Redpath, 2009 ) . Appendix 2: Merchandise Market Structure: The above market construction was used to place Flydubai relevant market within the air hose industry in the Middle East part. We started the construction with the most basic demand which is the demand to go in the part. This provided us with three options that include aeroplanes, coachs and autos. The merchandise signifier is divided between full service bearers and low cost bearers as they differentiate in monetary values and services being offered to clients. From this construction we can place Flydubai relevant market within the merchandise signifier degree. This is because the grade of competition and replaceability within the trade name providers are high, as they all offer low monetary values with similar paths within the part. This push the relevant market upwards towards the merchandise signifier degree. Furthermore, Flydubai indirect rivals include Fly Emirates, Etihad air hoses and Saudi air hoses. These full service air hoses are viing with Flydubai indirectly by supplyin g low monetary values with full services. On the other manus our direct rivals include Air Arabia and Al Jazerra air hoses that are both low cost air hoses that perform within the part. Further account on competition will be provided in the Micro analysis in the rivals subdivision. Appendix 3 Macro Environment: In analyzing the external environment of Flydubai in the following three old ages we will concentrate on the Macro and Micro environment. This survey will assist us in happening out the consequence of these external factors on the company in the following few old ages. The Macro environment factors will include Political, economical, societal and technological facets under which Flydubai will be affected by. 1 ) Political Analysis: A ) Government Regulations: Flydubai was established with orders of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Prime Minister and Vice-President, and Ruler of Dubai. Being owned by the Dubai authorities the company faces no troubles in Torahs and ordinances as the air hose industry in the Emirates is dining through the procedure of liberalisation the air hose industry that the United Arab Emirates is accommodating. B ) Political Analysis: In analyzing the overall political environment of the United Arab Emirates, we find it one of the most stable states within the part. Such political attack of peace seeking had made the state a trading hub in the part. This will surely hold its positive consequence on flydubai operations as to execute in stable political environment. C ) Employment Laws: Protecting labours rights and Emiratization is considered the chief facet that the UAE authorities is taking into consideration now a yearss. Companies are now forced to hold a certain per centum that of emirates locals that will increase in the undermentioned old ages as there is more accent on using locals in the private sector. Bing a portion of Emirates Airlines Group, Flydubai will surely accommodate its female parent company in hiring and preparation locals in suited occupations. This good intelligence will do Flydubai vie even stronger on monetary values as rising prices rates goes down. B ) Economic Analysis: Falling oil monetary values, chilling existent estate and building markets, together with a lag in the touristry sector, particularly in Dubai, means the UAE is expected to post low or perchance negative GDP growing in 2009, harmonizing to analysts. Populating in the current World Financial Economic Crises the UAE economic system in general and Dubai in specific faced a difficult clip in 2009 but analysts forecast that there will be more positive figures in 2010. Therefore, to do consumers alter their influence toward our trade name we should concentrate on the undermentioned properties.
